All Grades

Entry Deadline: April 24, 2026

About:

All students in grades K-6 are invited to submit a poem to the annual Poetry Contest. Poems may be written in any style. Rhyming is welcomed, but not required. Entries are limited to one per student and must be turned into the library no later than April 24, 2026. Entries must include the student's name, grade, and room number to be eligible for prizes.

Winners will be announced on April 30, 2026. Winning poets have the option of reading their work on the morning announcements (they may also request the librarian to read their poem). A Grand Prize Winner will receive a new bicycle. First Place will be awarded to the best poems in each grade level. First Prize is a $15 gift card to the local frozen yogurt shop. All participants will receive a certificate.

Marketing & Promotion:

The librarian will introduce the contest in the first week of April, during classroom Library Visits, in celebration of National Poetry Month. Teachers will communicate about the contest to their students’ families via ClassDoJo. Flyers will be sent home and posted to all common areas, bathrooms, classrooms, in the cafeteria, and main office. Flyers will also be posted on school social media and communications platforms.

About:

Open House is a school-wide event to showcase student work and accomplishments. Students and families will hear a message from the principal in the cafeteria, visit classrooms, and shop at the Book Fair.

Student artwork will be on display in the library. There will be a spring-themed back drop for photos and the school mascot will be available for pictures with students. There will be giveaways throughout the evening, including books and school-branded swag (t-shirts, sweatshirts, pencils, hairbows, water bottles, etc.). Each book purchased earns a ticket for prize raffles.

Marketing & Promotion:

Teachers will communicate about the Book Fair to their students’ families via ClassDoJo. Flyers will be posted to all common areas, bathrooms, classrooms, in the cafeteria, and main office. Flyers will also be sent home with students in the week prior to Open House and posted on school social media and communications platforms.

Staffing & Support:

PTA volunteers will run cash registers and assist with re-stocking throughout the event.

Total Expenses: $500
